When drawing this comic I was reminded about this fascinating (and funny) article about how Apple products have ruined cartoons. Phones are just rectangles now, and in a cartoon, a series of static and usually simplified images, it’s damn near impossible to tell what people are doing with their various electronic rectangles.
It’s a good read.
What’s the expression? Show don’t tell? Oops? Essentially this is the “plot” of this comic. John, unseen star of my old comic, is a mutual friend of Charlie and Davey. He knew they were both looking for a roommate and ta da – we have our comic. I’m trying to get a lot of table-setting done in this opening arc, so it may be a little exposition-y.
This is why we can’t have nice things. Over the summer I gained an appreciation for nice beers, and it’s doing terrible things for my wallet. My current favorite beer is Victory’s Hop Devil. It’s, as the name sugests, really hoppy, so if you’re into that sort of thing you’ll love it. Ithaca Brewing Company’s Flower Power is good too. It tastes a little like flowers, but not in a perfumery way. It’s more like someone picked a handful of dandelions out of the lawn and threw them in the brew. Somehow, this is a good thing. Trust me.
Also, I’m looking forward to a day months(years?) from now when I can go back in the archives of this comic and be embarrassed at how bad it looks in comparison to the new stuff. Practice makes perfect.
I really should have something more important to say given that this is the first comic, but eh. What’re you gonna do?
Happy Valentines Day everybody. I support starting a counter-holiday called Pal-entines Day. You just hang out with friends. There can still be chocolate, just not heart shaped.
